At Unstage, we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting the personal data you share with us. This policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information to provide and improve our background removal services:
User-Uploaded Images. We temporarily process the images you upload to remove backgrounds. When using the web app, processing happens entirely in your browser. When using the API, images are transmitted to our servers solely for processing.
Metadata. When you upload an image, we may process technical data (such as image dimensions and file type) to ensure compatibility with our processing pipeline.
Usage Data. We collect anonymous, aggregated data on how the App is used (e.g. number of images processed, feature usage) to improve performance and reliability.
Device Information. We may collect your IP address, browser type, and operating system to prevent fraud and manage API rate limits. This is handled by Cloudflare as part of our infrastructure.
2. How We Process Your Data
We use AI to identify and remove backgrounds from images. Unstage supports two processing modes:
Browser processing. When using the web app directly, all inference runs locally in your browser via WebAssembly. Your images never leave your device.
Desktop app. The desktop app processes all images locally on your device using an on-device AI model. No image data is transmitted to our servers.
Server processing (API). When using our API endpoint, images are uploaded to our secure servers, processed, and returned to you. They are discarded immediately after processing is complete.
No Training. We do not use your images to train our AI models or improve our algorithms without your explicit, separate consent.
3. Data Retention & Storage
Browser processing. Nothing is stored — all processing happens locally and no data is transmitted.
Desktop app. Processed images and thumbnails are stored locally on your device in the app's data directory. This data never leaves your machine and can be cleared at any time from Settings.
Server processing. Images submitted via the API are discarded immediately after processing. No image data is persisted on our servers.
No Permanent Logs. We do not keep a permanent history of original images once background removal is complete and the session has ended.
4. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell your images or personal data to third parties. We only share data with:
- — Cloudflare — our infrastructure and hosting provider. Cloudflare may retain basic access logs (IP address, request metadata) per their own privacy policy.
- — Cloudflare Analytics — privacy-friendly analytics that use no cookies and collect only anonymized, aggregated data. No personal information is shared.
We do not use advertising trackers or share data with any other third parties.

Depending on your location, you have the right to access, erase, and port your data, and to withdraw consent for non-essential data collection.
Because Unstage does not store personal data or images, these rights are inherently satisfied — there is nothing to delete or export on our end. If you have any questions about data we may hold, contact us and we will respond promptly.
